Open day

Hello everyone!

I want to say thank you to all the parents who were able to make it to our open day today! I know everyone is very busy so I'm grateful for all the moms and dads who came to see our classes.

I hope you all had a good time and were able to take some good pictures of the classes.

I thought I would write a little about all the classes that I taught today as I saw lots of parents from different classes coming in to see the different levels.

The first class in the morning was Margaret classes "Circle Time". Recently, we have been starting the class with some self introductions. I want the children to practice talking about themselves but also learn to speak confidently and loudly in front of other people.

After this, we focused on learning and revising different words and phrases. It's now the end of the month and all the children did a great job being able to remember all the vocabulary that we studied in class today. I'm really proud that they were able to pay attention and sang all the songs clearly and loudly too. I hope you all enjoyed the lesson.

The second class that I taught was Grammar and Social Studies for Violet Class. We have been studying and using simple past tense for a few months in our grammar class. Last week, we began revising the points using a print out from a grammar workbook. The children have been able to work through these sheets at a steady pace with the guidance of the teacher. Sometimes, they are able to perform some parts by themselves. However, the word rearranging activity we did today is very difficult so we did it together as a class. I think the children did a great job being able to read and pick out the correct words and recognizing the pronouns and verbs. This kind of activity is great practice for Eiken and I hope they will be able to try a similar exercise by themselves very soon! Although we weren't able to finish writing out all the answers, I feel like it was a productive lesson in helping them understand sentence structure.

After this, we looked at the world map. They were easily able to place the different continents and oceans. They were also able to verbally explain where Africa was on the map, which was fantastic. Then we looked briefly at our monthly topic of "Tallest Towers in the World". Unfortunately, we were short of time and weren't able to talk about all of them fully but I hope to spend more time on it on Thursday.

Lastly, I taught Reading and Phonics with Rose Class. During this time, we usually spend half the time reading stories and talking about the vocabulary and content. After reading, the remaining time is spent looking over Eiken examples and other things that are needed for the test. For example; explaining a word or talking about a story. We also use this class to try practice Eiken questions and review the answers together as a class. Today, Asahi did a great job in the practice questions and was able to answer all of them correctly!

We finished the open day with a visit to the park. The children were so excited that it was hard keeping them focused while walking there, but usually they are very well behaved. The children seemed to have a great time at the park and had a great day showing their parents their school and classes.

I hope everyone had a good time and enjoyed themselves.

Thank you,
Mia
